Normally I don't glee about my television shows in depth. But oh gosh. This is going to be an amazing season of FAIL on the Amazing Race.

Why, you ask? Let me explain.

Their first destination is Santiago, Chile. One team tried to get tickets to China. Apparently Santiago sounds like a Chinese city.

Another team? Went and got Brazillian money. For Chile.

On yet another team? The ditz pageant contestant that was everywhere for a while.

This will be epic.

At least one team is cool, though. "Where is Chile?" "You've never heard of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, man?" I need to rewatch that bit so I can see what team I'm rooting for. Biased viewer is biased.

I might add to this post as the show goes on, we're only in the first 15 minutes here.

Addition: One team thanked someone in German for their clue. In Chile. And yet another team wound up painting the wrong house. They went INTO A HOUSE AND STARTED PAINTING.

I love this show. Most of the time I love it for the culture aspects, getting glimpses of other countries. Tonight, I love it for the fail.

So I was sitting here, very into the beautiful send off they gave Doctor Ten. It was sad and lovely and painful.

Then he regenerates.

And my thoughts are "He's UGLY NOW! NO!"

There are times when I'm shallow. At least when Nine died he became Ten. Eleven...maybe he'll grow on me. I wasn't impressed by Ten at first. But Ten wasn't ugly.

I need to get my sleep schedule back to normal. Logging and the Who-a-thon have kept me up waaaaay too much.

Oh, and I think I love Wilf, Donna's grandfather.

First lesson of the new year - Don't finally fall asleep with the Dr. Who marathon still going on the tv.

I woke up in the middle of the only Who episode I ever avoided: Angels. There is nothing like putting on glasses, blinking at the screen, and being told by Ten not to blink.

So I've started the new year with about ten years scared off of me.

Anyway. I might keep this up more. Time will tell.

My face is painted and I'm at work. I love Fridays. I've heard nothing yet about the teaching position, so we'll see how that goes.

And now, a meme.

[livejournal.com profile] erraticflow gave me Bleach, Star Trek, and Babylon 5.

Bleach )

Star Trek )

Babylon 5 )

So in summary, go watch Babylon 5, the first two seasons are on Hulu, so go get hooked. And then seek out the third and fourth seasons, which were the best. Star Trek is good, but the fandom is splintered and crazy liek woah right now. Bleach is repititious but I enjoy the bit characters, so I'll probably stick with it.

And I'm coming out of the closet about being a Naruto fan to say GO KAKASHI! Latest chapter is win. He gets to be smart and put things together. :D This is why Maes and Kakashi working together is a dangerous thing in Adstring, la de da.

Listening to Trinity Blood music makes me want to watch it again. There's something so lovely about cello music. And speaking of cello music, I need to rewatch the last season of Angel. I think, if I can figure out how to play her right, I'll be playing Illyria next. The difficulty will be in blending together both, ah, personas. I'd probably take her from the last episode, 'do you want me to lie to you,' and such.

Anyways, now for a meme from Youko. She chose Urahara for me. )

I'm going to get my slow cooker going for the first time after lunch. I am looking forward to seeing how the dish turns out, but I'm not worried. I love cooking, but it might be nice to be sitting working (at work, no less) while my food cooks itself. It's an oddly amusing thought.

I am slightly excited about today. I have been trying to get more people hooked on Babylon 5 since, well, forever. Two days ago, Adstring's Mayuri player came onto AIM. This was awesome in itself, school and work has been eating her time. Then she said she was thinking of apping Bester from B5. Yesterday, one of the best applications I've seen was waiting in the queue - Bester. It's so awesome, not just because Londo has a canonmate. It's because I love B5 characters. Even the one guy who really is pure evil is intriguing, Mr. Morden. They're all fantastic. Well, correction. All of the ones that have enough info to be playable are. I really did not like Ulkesh, ever. But there are such deep minor characters too. Neroon comes to mind first. He showed up in what, four episodes? And yet was so powerful and moving. Number Two was great. Zathros was hilarious. I simply love seeing the characters. Except Ulkesh.

Tisha and I might still get to hang out tomorrow. I'm hoping. I'm waiting on confirmation. It would be a shame if that falls through too... that would make two RP friends who were down here for Disney that just couldn't find time.

You know, while I'm being random, I might as well link to an RP thread that's still going and I'm still having fun with. My Gojyo now has Kat's Goku convinced that Son Goku means "stupid to the highest extent" and that he should change his name to Mono Tonto. WARNING for language. It is Gojyo, after all. Poor Monkey.

People being wordy for the sake of being wordy and not precision are getting a little tiresome. I'm doing research for my next article, this one assigned, and all of the sources go out of their way to throw more words in. "Look! I have a dictionary and thesaurus! Whee!" No. Bad writer. Go away. No cookie for you. To be certain, precision in diction is desirable. But you need not add, toss in, throw into the mix, and elaborate with options that are redundant and repetitive and say what you've said already. ;)

I finally got around to starting and using my original writing filter. It's still opt-in for anyone. I don't want to spam people with it, and I don't want it public, so it's going there.

Hm. I wonder if I write too much. Oh well. Have an icon with one of my favorite B5 quotes. Ivanova is win.

Ugh.

So, I'm pretty sure I got food-poisoned by IHOP.

Normally I love IHOP. But... now I'm sick, and shaky, and trying to get up the courage to try to eat again. I went to work despite feeling off, and it just got bad. So I missed playing at Fiddler's Green for the first time in a couple of years, missed the excitement that always comes from there... At least I made the meeting at work? But I don't remember most of it.

Why am I online? I got so tired of just laying down. And I wanted to hit tags and such, and get Carmen's second round going. It's still very slow. I'm wondering if maybe I should wind up sticking to animanga stuff... But if you're interested, check out [livejournal.com profile] vile_hq

The History Channel has been showing a lot of interesting Irish stuff today. A good chunk of it I knew, but I hadn't realized that it was the Irish who hit the Comstock Lode. Go my people go, hee. Well, partly my people. America needs a Scottish holiday too. ;)

Okay. Getting up. Seriously. And going to eat crackers with peanut butter, likely. If I can pull together my resolve. I hate being sick to my stomach.
nadat: (Dr. Horrible Fingers)
Today (or now yesterday, technically, but who cares about the technical?) was good. It was peaceful and included sushi and plum wine, caramel cake and caramel ice cream. Hey, guess what, I like caramel. heehee. My family is going to wind up getting me fabric for curtains for my apartment and fabric for a canopy over my bed, too. Hooray for practical and desired birthday presents, hee.

I'm a year older, and I'm still waiting on the added wisdom. I'll let you all know if any arrives.

In the meantime, I'm going to contemplate buying myself the 25 TWEWY pins I picked out, heehee. Or maybe Gaiden. Something, since I didn't spend that much at the con, either. I behaved. :D

And have the last part of an overdue meme. For the five things meme, Kat picked Iron Chef, LoTR, band, Mountain Dew, and Bleach. )

Hee. I've got to start one log in Adstring, and then I'm going to finish getting ready and head to bed. So the next time you hear from me will, at the earliest, be Saturday night, my time.

My quest for this con is to get Maes Hughes and Sha Gojyo plushies, to go with my Kenpachi plushie. We'll see if I succeed. And also, to get a picture of me as Carmen trying to steal the convention center with the security guys trying to stop me. :D I hope they play along...

Two more people joined on the 5 things meme, yay!

Blaze asked for Traveling, TV shows, Saiyuki, RPing, and science fiction. )
Shannon asked for Gojyo, green, fatherly love, monkeys, and Saiyuki again )

So there you have it. And now, it's time to put up a log for Hakkai vs Chin and then head offline and to dreamland.

MegaCon, here I come. :D
nadat: (Beast Bookworm)
So, the new X-Men cartoon premiered yesterday.

Color me unimpressed.

Let's start with the animation. Professor Xavier has a fantastic 'quality' face when they get attacked, which really stood out. I knew who Scott was because of the glasses; his face and hair were completely changed. Wolverine had a torso the size of Kenpachi's, and toothpick legs. It wasn't bad animation, technically. It just wasn't very good.

The mutants are now stupid. This is obvious starting from the first scene, when Shadowcat, Iron Man, and Nightcrawler are training in the danger room. I think it's supposed to inspire nostalgia? Instead, they're stupid and fall easily into traps. Hank doesn't notice Wolverine when Wolverine 'sneaks up' on him with no sneaking at all, Rogue tries to be undercover at a press conference for Senator Kelly but she's wearing her spandex costume under a hooded cloak. Apparently, if Xavier and Jean are gone, everyone falls apart. Oh, and they're sticking with Young!Rogue from the movies.

On to Hank. Beast has always been my favorite character. But something here is off. He's not eloquent. He's not highly intelligent. Maybe it's too early to tell for certain, but... it feels like they've reduced him to just being blue and a slight scientist.

You know, maybe this can be chalked up to growing pains. It's a fairly well-known canon, and they have to do something new with it to be an actual new series. But... I don't know. I still don't know if I'll give it another chance next Friday or not.

~*~

On a more personal note, my vertigo's been out of control this last week, and it's bugging me. Well, obviously it would be, but beyond just the problems it causes. I don't know what set it off. So I've been stuck at home again, and there's nothing I can do but *be* stuck at home. I can't handle a crowd right now; if I get bumped, I'm going down. And walking is exhausting atm.

Though it let up enough that I was able to cook Thursday night. I had lemon ginger fettuccine from a trip to the farmer's market a couple of weeks back, and I had a feeling that a sweet and savory marinara sauce would work very well. It did. Diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, a touch of Worceshire, some sugar, some garlic, two scallions, a bit of ginger, and a dash of red chili pepper flakes worked wonders. Very simple, though it took a bit of sampling and adding before I was happy with it. It had a little too much liquid at the end of Thursday night; I should have drained the diced tomatoes. But the leftovers had a good consistency.

A last random sidenote. I pulled out my old Iroh journal to play on RPsecrets yesterday, since there was a secret talking about looking down on people who use characters from children's series like Avatar. Randomly I wound up interacting with both the Azula and the Toph from DramaDramaDuck. It's huge. It's massive. And the Azula player brought up that they don't have an Iroh. I poked around DDD. I'm still undecided; I don't know if I can keep up with two comms. But it would be neat. They have a few characters, Azula, Toph, Ty Lee, Aang, Sokka. Though the latter two don't seem to be highly active. I don't know. I'll think about it.

Alas.

4th place out of four bands.

Maybe if we'd made mistakes, it would make sense. But we didn't. The 3rd place band was sloppy and all over the place. The second place band had a badly done ending (cut off.) The first place played cleanly, but eliminated almost everything complicated from their tunes, changing them to be almost unrecognizable. How does that count as playing it right?

Meh. I don't know.

Anyways. The weekend is over. We were the hostband, so we had duties Friday, throughout Saturday, and today. Everything seems to have gone well, and they fed us Saturday, which was nice. And the Albannach concert was fantastic. I want maraca mallets now.

We get a nice break now; the next games are Feb. 28th. We'll see how the band takes the loss, and check out the judge sheets, on Wednesday.

Time to catch up on Adstring, while watching Ace of Cakes. I love having cable...
nadat: (Shunsui Pink)
Poor Zambia. Even when arranged by number of strokes in the Chinese alphabet, they wound up at the end of the parade of nations. I can imagine them now. "Ooh, new order? Do we get to watch part of the parade this time? We're in a different position? YES! Wait. What? Second-to-last instead of our normal third-to-last? Forget this. I'm moving to Albania."

My weekend was fantastic. Busy beyond insanity, but fantastic. Other than to sleep, I think I was home for a grand total of an hour from Friday until today.

From cooking and enjoying real Chinese food for an Opening Ceremonies party to saving Agrabah as Abu, everything was great. DisneyQuest was as fun as I'd remembered it being, and I now know what is likely the best route for the Pirates game to score the highest. So busy, but so much fun...

Oh, and I may have a ride to AFO. I'm not sure, but it's possible. That would be nice, lol.

Here's the plan. Rule the world.

No, wait, that's the plan that's supposed to stay secret. And also get stuck in my head to be sung over and over. Darn catchy songs.

Ahem.
Writer woes and balancing life )
Anyways, there are fun things a-brewing in Jackieland too. It's not all writer woes.

I'm walking without my cane for the most part inside my house now, I didn't use it last Sunday at church (which is more of a big thing, because that's often crowded and random people make staying upright difficult,) and tomorrow I'll be seeing if I can deal at work without it.

The church birthday this year should be a huge blast, the theme is themeparks, so we're revisiting some of the best birthdays: pirates, cowboys, outer space, Imagination Laboratories, and superheroes. And then we're all going to DisneyQuest after. :D DisneyQuest is fantastic, but I haven't been in years.

I've finally seen B5: The Lost Tales. Uh. The music was good. I was expecting more of the cast besides Sheridan, Lochley, and Galen. Granted, it would be impossible to have anything new of G'Kar or Dr. Franklin, but... yeah. Was kinda hoping for more cast.

I've also finished the first season of Angel. I recognized a few episodes, but most were new to me, including all of the ones with Doyle. So much for thinking I'd seen most of the episodes. But that's fine, the cello opening and closing are addicting. I have no objection whatsoever to watching Angel.

Oh, and "I Survived A Japanese Gameshow" finished last night. I have to say, it was a whole lot of fun, and they picked an excellent cast, from the contestants to the host. There were moments of aggravation, but for the most part everyone got along and had fun. That made watching it a whole lot more fun. I kinda want to be on it. Tony is hot for one thing. Thing two: Japan. Thing three: first and second place got tickets back to Japan whenever they felt like going. And there is also the prize. Yes, the games are silly. But I've been aware of the silliness of Japanese game shows for quite a while. Nothing is really shocking anymore, and Romu's games were actually pretty mild. The spinny chair would either be the ace up my sleeve or my nemesis. I know how to deal with excessive vertigo, but I'm more prone to it than most. I have no idea how I'd do.

Yeah. Another pretty normal day over here.
nadat: (Kosh End in Fire)
And thus the rambling begins, hee.

The plan was thus: Get there on Friday, attend the Grandfather Mountain Games on Saturday, drop me off at the Pipe and Drum Academy on Sunday while Dad went backpacking, and then he'd finish Friday noon-ish, and come pick me up as camp wrapped up. Then we'd relax the rest of Friday, and meander back on Saturday, hitting shops and stuff along the way, and get back very late Saturday/very early Sunday.

Getting there is half the journey, but it's even more than half if the road Google Maps told you to take doesn't exist. )

So I got back to find that Nickelodeon had aired all of the rest of Avatar. Warning - spoilers and UTTER GLEE ahead. )
~*~

So, I returned home with a new hat and a Mountain Dulcimer, and three new spins, and a routine for professional if I choose to go that route, and I might. I also returned home to find new Avatar, and new FMA chapter, and more Bleach chapters with one shot of Yumi being smug and called Elite, which is win in my books. :D Our affiliate did not email me, the latest edition of the magazine came out, and my nose, which started bleeding intermittently once we hit the mountains, has stopped.

And now Florida seems freaking hot compared to the cool mountains.

But I'm home. :D
nadat: (Sokka stuffed mouth)
And alas, the second and final holiday of the year where they shoot off fireworks has passed. But it was fun when it was happening. Our downtown area has a whole festival-type thing it does for the fourth before shooting off a good show over the lake that's viewable from my porch. And then I get to go home and snicker at all the people who will be stuck in traffic for at least an hour, waiting to get out of the area.

Lauren came over for it, and I have introduced her to Babylon 5, which she seemed to enjoy. Hurray! I like making new addicts. >.>

But I am back to normal health, so therefore I will be online again, at least until band camp sweeps me away. However, I do now have a PSP (that I got used for $50, woohoo!) so I may be able to access wireless internet while in NC for free... provided it's not too rural. It might be. There might not even be a McDonald's in the area, and that's a shocking prospect.

AFO is coming up fast. I need to figure out a rave cosplay. I might modify the head Technomage's costume from B5, make it more feminine, subtract some of the heavy fabric, provided Jason was serious about going as Technomages. That would be a whole lot of fun. But the two women Technomages wore just plain black, nothing special. I also need to find out if the Bleachmob is doing a P3 cosplay day, and/or an Avatar day. Bleach is not in question, one of the days at least we'll be in that. But the others... Finding out soon might be a good idea.

Also. Mini-rant. Where the heck is Avatar? It's July, Nickelodeon. You promised Avatar the whole month of July, all the way to the finale. I'm not surprised you lied, again, but this is ridiculous. Darnitall, I want to know if Iroh survives. Which... he's my favorite character, he's probably doomed. But... come on.
nadat: (Q sarcasm lowkey)
1) Upon observing the peppers on your plant flourishing, exclaim "You're turning yellow! That's awesome! Go you!" Then notice the staring and back away slowly.

2) Be on the phone with a friend when the question of whether Iroh loves tea or the ladies more comes up. Even if you're on the tea side, you'll get odd looks. (My cell doesn't work in the apartment; therefore conversations on that happen on the porch.)

3) Talk at your peppermint plant. Often.

4) Apologize to the lizard sitting on your door step or screen that you're going to have to open the door and go in.

Follow these steps, and you too can watch your neighbors give you funny looks when they think you can't see them.
